THAWING OUT YEARS OF REPRESSION
“I had a nightmare I won’t forget: I was in Antarctica, near an old wooden ship surrounded by ice. There was a light under the ship below the water. I swam under the ship to the light, but suddenly I realized I was very deep below the surface and it was very dark. I was scared. Then I noticed a huge shark coming at me. I started to swim up, knowing I wouldn’t get out of water before it got me. Just as the shark got to me, I woke up terrified.”
The ice represents a barrier of repressed emotion between you and a valuable part of your Self. The stranded wooden ship is your own halted, distressed personal progress, until you decide to own the value which lies deep within this area of your psyche. Darkness represents being “in the dark” about what you’re in for, easily leading to fear, the shark threatening to consume you. You may literally let your fears consume you, and disallow you from delving any deeper.
